IDEELab 3D Printing Service
The Innovation, Design, and Engineering Education Laboratory (IDEELab) at Mississippi State University provides 3D printing services that support innovation, prototyping, design exploration, and hands-on learning. As part of the Michael W. Hall School of Mechanical Engineering, IDEELab helps students, faculty, staff, and approved partners bring ideas to life through advanced manufacturing and engineering-focused fabrication services.
Whether you are developing a class project, research prototype, competition part, or design concept, our team will review your submission and work with you to prepare it for production.
How the Service Works
- Submit your 3D printing request through this storefront page.
- Upload your 3D model file in an approved format.
- Provide all requested project and print details.
- IDEELab staff will review the file for printability, scale, and production feasibility.
- If needed, we will contact you regarding adjustments, pricing, or timeline.
- Once approved, your print will be scheduled and completed based on current workload and machine availability.
- You will be notified when your item is ready for pickup or follow-up.
Who May Use This Service
This service is intended to support the IDEELab mission of advancing innovation, engineering education, applied research, and real-world design experience. Requests may be accepted from Mississippi State University students, faculty, staff, and other approved users based on project scope and available capacity.
Accepted File Types
Sliced file formats must be .gcode. Submitted files should be print-ready, properly scaled, and checked for model integrity before upload.
Project Review and Production
- All files are reviewed before printing.
- Submission of a file does not guarantee immediate production.
- Projects may be prioritized based on academic need, research support, complexity, and current queue volume.
- IDEELab may contact you if file revisions or additional information are needed before production.
Important Information
- Print time varies depending on size, geometry, material use, and machine availability.
- Complex prints, multi-part assemblies, and multiple-copy orders may require additional review.
- Final output quality may vary depending on the submitted model and printing constraints.
- Support may be available for prototyping and design iteration, but users are responsible for submitting workable files.
Restrictions
- IDEELab reserves the right to deny any request that is unsafe, prohibited, or inconsistent with university policy.
- Items that violate copyright, trademark, licensing, or other intellectual property requirements may not be produced.
- Weapons, weapon components, and other prohibited or hazardous items will not be printed.
- Projects must align with appropriate educational, research, service, or approved innovation purposes.
Turnaround Time
Turnaround time depends on project complexity, print duration, material requirements, and current production demand. IDEELab will make every effort to support project timelines, but completion dates cannot be guaranteed until review is complete.
